Welcome To Southlake Texas


Southlake is a city located primarily in the northeastern part of Tarrant County, Texas. A small northernly region of the city is in Denton County. The population was 21,519 at the 2000 census.

Southlake is well known for its Southlake Town Square project, a massive shopping center located on State Highway 114 and Southlake Boulevard. It is one of the most popular shopping centers in Tarrant County, especially when judged in proportion to the population of Southlake. A plan was approved in March 2005 that allowed the Town Square's area to be doubled.

Sabre Holdings, an S&P 500 company and owner of Travelocity, is headquartered in Southlake.

The Dallas Burn (now FC Dallas) was located in Southlake before and after moves to the Cotton Bowl. They moved again to Frisco, Texas in 2005.

The Southlake/Carroll Dragons, the city's high school football team, is one of the best programs in America. The team won the "mythical" national championship in 2004, 2005, and 2006 with state chapionships in all three years as well as in 2002. Carroll football was voted the best dynasty in Texas high school history at the 2006 state championship game.

Geography

Southlake is located at 32°56′48″N, 97°8′43″W (32.946678, -97.145230)GR1 .

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 58.1 km² (22.5 mi²). 56.7 km² (21.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²) of it (2.45%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 21,519 people, 6,414 households, and 5,958 families residing in the city. Of the 6,414 households, 60.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. The average household size was 3.35 and the average family size was 3.48. The median price asked for a home is $437,800. 3,997 of the 6,602 occupied houses have nine or more rooms. 4,660 of the occupied houses have four or more bedrooms. 3,342 of the 6,602 occupied houses have two cars. 2,348 of these houses have three or more cars. 3,790 of these houses cost more than $300,000.

The median income for a household in the city was $131,549, and the median income for a family was $136,023. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $46,042 for females. The per capita income for the city was $47,597. About 1.3% of families and 1.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.0% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Most of Southlake is in the Carroll ISD . Small portions of the city extend into the Northwest Independent School District, Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, and Keller Independent School District.
