Welcome to McKinney, Texas

McKinney, Texas, is the county seat for Collin County. It was named after Collin McKinney who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. The city is located 32 miles northeast of Dallas at the intersection of two US highways, 380 and 75. It is located only 12 miles from Plano.

McKinney Atmosphere

Residents of McKinney love that the city is so close to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, yet so far away. The crowded streets, traffic, noise, and congestion are what you get in the big city and completely the opposite of what you will find in McKinney. The streets are tree lined., people are more laid back, and the city exudes a home town feel like plenty of Southern country towns do.

McKinney Recreation

There are plenty of fun things to do in McKinney, Texas, and recreational opportunities are abundant. Lake Levon, Lake Texoma, and Wilson Creek Park. Lake Levon has 23,000 acres and four parks for residents and visitors to enjoy. Lake Texoma is a bit smaller at 11,000 acres and boasts 125 miles of shoreline. The Navidad River also runs into this lake. East of US 75 is Wilson Creek Park that also offers plenty of fun in the sun.

In 2000 the population of McKinney was 54,369 and it grew to 96,581 by 2005. However, the McKinney real estate has not seen drastic growth although it is predicted because McKinney is supposedly America's Fastest Growing City.
