Allen, Texas, is located in Collin County and was named after Texas attorney general Ebenezer Allen. The city was established as a railroad stop in 1870. It served to connect the Houston and Texas railroad with local farms. The city's close location to the Dallas-Fort Worth area helped significantly with its growth.

In fact, Allen has shown significant growth since the 2000 census. In 2000 the population of Allen, Texas was 43,554 and by the end of 2005 it was estimated that more than 69,891 individuals were calling Allen, Texas home. That means more than 5,000 individuals moved to Allen each of the past five years. The Allen real estate market has also been booming because of this influx of residents.

Other closer cities include Fairview, McKinney, Plano, and Lucas.
